A unique opportunity to photograph the ETG X1501/2 in the landscapes of the Roya Valley
The Nice - Breil-sur-Roya - Tende Line is perhaps one of the most spectacular in the south-east of France, with the magnificent mountain landscapes and the structures built to cross them.
Located near the Italian border, it also bears traces of the region's turbulent history.
During station stops, time permitting, you can photograph the ETG in stations it has never visited.
On the way back, you will follow the Tende and Breil-sur-Roya route aboard a specially chartered coach which will follow the ETG: it will stop at the Scarassoui, Saorge and Magglia viaducts, as well as in the stations of St-Dalmas de Tende and Fontan.
On board the ETG you can take advantage of the large bay windows to photograph the beautiful landscapes of this mythical route.
Please note that the X1501/2 is a former test train and does not have the "seating" facilities like other passenger trains.
The X1501/2 railcar is an SNCF prototype. Consisting of the diesel engines of 2 ETG (gas turbine elements), it studies from 1993 the tracking of train location by on-board radars (Astrée). Modified in 2001, it becomes a rolling laboratory for the European rail traffic management system (ERTMS). He joined the association's park at the end of 2018.
Under no circumstances attempt to open the doors without having been invited to do so by the volunteers and wait for the train to come to a complete standstill before descending during the planned stops at the station. Don't throw anything out of the train and avoid poking your head out of the windows, our routes are often full of vegetation... and the branches are not always soft!
We travel on the national rail network, owned by the SNCF. At the station, stay on the platforms and do not venture into areas where access is prohibited, this behavior is punishable by a fine and imprisonment. Do not attempt to cross the tracks outside of the planned passages and stay away from the edge of the platform, our train is not alone on the rails.
